Attention Scam Alert  Especially Older Adults!

We’ve received a call from a community member about a company that contacted him claiming to be a “water company” needing to do water testing, and offered a gift card to a local restaurant for his time. When he asked if they were affiliated with FPUD, the person would not answer.

This person is not legitimate.

Because of this, the customer is rightfully concerned that some seniors or homeowners might mistake this for a legitimate partner of FPUD, and may agree without realizing what’s really going on.

  • If someone contacts you offering “free water testing” and a gift card, ask: “Who do you represent exactly?” Is it FPUD, or a private company working with them? Get it in writing.
  • Fallbrook Public Utility District is the only agency handling municipal residential water in our area.
  • We would not use an outside company to engage with our customers.
  • We do not show up unannounced or ask to enter your home.
  • Our crews always wear FPUD uniforms, carry proper identification and arrive in a district vehicle.
  • We do not sell water filters or provide in-home water tests without prior notice.
  • If someone pushes, gets aggressive, or tries to force entry, call the sheriff’s department immediately.
  • If you’re unsure or want verification, contact FPUD directly—we’re happy to answer any questions: 760-728-1125.

Please share this alert, especially with elderly or vulnerable neighbors.

Our water meets or exceeds all state and federal water quality standards.

👉Scammers in San Diego County have targeted residents, especially the elderly, by posing as water inspectors—claiming contamination, demanding entry, or pushing expensive filter systems. FPUD and valid utilities:

  • Do not enter homes
  • Wear uniforms, carry ID, and drive clearly marked district vehicles
  • Never demand immediate payment or force their way in

If you see suspicious behavior—or someone claiming to be from the “state” or a water utility—please don’t let them incall FPUD, and if needed alert the sheriff.
